Scottish Collection

The Scottish Collection is a series of contemporary landscape paintings exploring memory, place, and the quiet endurance of the Scottish terrain. At the heart of each work sits a solitary white cottage — a symbol of shelter, belonging, and continuity.
The paintings take a minimalist, tonal approach: form is simplified, detail restrained, and a muted palette of greys, ochres, and mossy greens lets subtle shifts in tone do the work. Layered surfaces and soft edges blur the line between land and sky, creating an atmosphere that feels both familiar and distant.
These are not paintings of a specific place, but of an emotional landscape — shaped by memory, weather, and time. The recurring cottage becomes almost meditative, a quiet presence within an expansive, overwhelming world.
Dedicated to my grandmother, Mary Mackenzie, the collection is a personal reflection on heritage and landscape. Each painting is acrylic on canvas, housed in a handmade hardwood frame.
